Historic surroundings with a view

In the historic surroundings, Fløirestauranten's century-old building has been lovingly restored with deep respect for Norwegian architect Einar Oscar Schou’s original vision. Designed in the early 1920s, Schou’s iconic work is celebrated as one of his most significant achievements, with every detail - interior, lamps, fittings, and furniture - originally crafted under his direction.

The new owners have breathed fresh life into this landmark, making it a vibrant setting for both life’s grand celebrations and simple pleasures, whether it’s an unforgettable wedding or a quiet coffee break on the terrace after a weekend hike. The expansive terrace, with its panoramic view over Bergen, is beautifully furnished with Ocean Chairs and Tables, whose timeless design and airy style complement the building’s history. Inside, the bar and lounge areas feature Mater’s classic High Stools by Space Copenhagen and elegant Matek™ bar tables. Guests in the dining room can relax in the inviting Dining Chairs by Space Copenhagen, while taking in sweeping views of Bergen and the surrounding mountains.

In the quieter corners and the Café area, The Dining Chair in FSC-certified oak has been used around round tables to create a more intimate meeting space.

Our Ocean Collection is made from various waste streams, such as discarded fishing nets, recycled beer kegs and electronic plastic waste

Originally produced from wood veneer, the outdoor furniture collection was first designed in 1955 by Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel - one of the 20th century's most renowned design duos. Since 2019, Mater has reimagined the elegant designs, in an effort to tackle various waste streams. First, in a version using recycled fishing nets (Ocean Black & Sand), followed by a version made in collaboration with Carlsberg Brewery, using their empty plastic beer kegs (Ocean Green). Most resently we presented the Burnt Red version made of 68% recycled e-waste plastic deriving from post-consumer electronic waste.

In addition to the slats being made in recycled materials, all frames in the Ocean Colletion are made from 20% recycled steel. Furthermore the products are designed for disassembly, meaning that the parts can be easily taken apart and reused, when the product reaches it's end-of-life.

Depending on the colour of the Ocean collection each chair recycles up to 2 kg of waste materials per chair.
